This past August I was lucky enough to celebrate my birthday in Cancun with friends and whale sharks. It hardly gets better than that! The video below explains a little bit about whale sharks and responsible swim programs.
We went with Mexico Whale Shark tours and had a great experience. The captain was adamant about us not touching the whale sharks, a guide was always with guests in the water, and we did have to wear life jackets. He also reiterated that we could only wear biodegradable sunscreen. That actually seemed to be a theme all around Cancun.
The guidelines for responsible whale shark interactions discussed in the video can be found on the World Wildlife Fund website.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Cancun and cannot wait to go back. From swimming with whale sharks to consuming monster frozen drinks and burritos at Surfin Burrito, Cancun really had it all. See you next time when we explore more of the wildlife in Cancun!
